Havanese dogs are purely a social bred. They can’t live alone. The need other pets or their owner at their side every time. If left alone, they may prone to different behavior issues. The Havanese dogs have curious and spirited personality with mischievous attitude. Havanese dogs are highly adaptable to any environment. They only need companionship andlot of attention because of their social instinct.


Physical structure of Havanese dogs: Havanese dogs are small to medium in size. The most common and ancient color of Havanese dogs are white and cream but now, modern Havanese dog come in many different colors such as fawn, red, brown, silver, blue, and black. The coat may be one solid color or have markings in one or more other colors. For example, sable,brindle, black & tan, Irish pied, parti colored, belton, or piebald. Havanese dog have long, straight,silky and fine coat. The outer coat of Havanese dogs is neither coarse nor highly dense. The tail is long covered with silky coat. Havanese dogs have solid and energetic body.


Height and weight: Generally Havanese dogs have 8-11inches height and 7-13 pounds weight.

Temperament of Havanese dogs: Havanese dogs are natural companion and gentle dogs. They are very responsive and emotional dogs. They attached very easily with their owner s and don’t want to apart from him. They are very social and cheerful dogs. Havanese dogs don’t have any problem with other pets and children. They love to play games and other activities with children.They are easy to train. They are very obedience and disciplined dogs.


Havanese dogs are also famous as circus dogs as they love to do things for people to grab their attention and also have very high learning skills. They are also good watch dogs for families. They will alert when a stranger comes, but welcome a guest of yours if he see you welcome him. Usually they are not aggressive. But if not train well and with proper pack leader, they might be aggressive and annoyed.

Training and exercises for Havanese dogs: Havanese dogs need your time and attention. They can’t live alone or in their own way.They love to be with their owners. They have sharp learning skills and very responsive. They not need daily walk but occasional walk is highly recommended for Havanese dogs. Also tend to be a leader during walk and train your Havanese dog to follow. This is very important to have an obedience and balanced pet.

Grooming of Havanese dogs: Havanese dogs need proper careand grooming, clipping and priming is recommended. Brushing at least twice aweek is necessary. Nail clipping is also essential from the puppy age. Theshort-haired Havanese dogs are not suitable for allergy sufferers as they arenot hypoallergenic.

Health Problems: Hip dysplasia, Progressive retinal atrophy, poodle eye, Juvenile heritable cataracts, luxatingpatellas, Chonrdodyplasia, Patellar Luxation, legg-Calve Perthes Disease,unilateral and bilateral deafness and dry skin are some major health issues of Havanese dogs.

Life expectancy of Havanese dogs: Approximately 14-15 years.

Living space: Havanese dogs can live in small apartment type place also. They consider as a natural companion. So, they can live in your home and indoor conditions easily.
